Microsoft reissue KB4589212 to release a new microcode version for Intel processors

The microcode update is a fix released by Intel and Microsoft for Intel processors. The content of the fix is the security Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities.

This series of speculative execution vulnerabilities have been found in many variants, so Intel releases updates from time to time. For users, such updates are automatically installed by default.

However, installing the update may result in a significant reduction in Intel processor performance, so Microsoft also provides a way to modify the registry to prevent the update from being automatically installed.

Theoretically speaking, if you install this kind of microcode update, it may affect the performance but the security is higher. If you do not install it, it will not affect the performance but may reduce the security.

KB4589212 update is launched for Windows 10 V2004 and Windows 10 20H2. At present, Microsoft has begun to push this update to users.

If the user did not manually modify the registry to prevent its installation, the current system should have been automatically downloaded and installed, and the user basically does not need to operate.

Microsoft stated in the support document that this update is mainly for Intel’s 10th generation processors, and of course, there are similar updates for Intel processors before the 10th generation.

In principle, it is recommended that individuals or companies in a high-security environment install such microcode updates, and ordinary home users may not install such updates unless necessary.
