Microsoft first launched its Xbox Cloud Gaming service for iOS and iPadOS about a year ago, which players can access through the Safari browser. While the web version isn’t as comprehensive as the xCloud app, Microsoft is also continually improving performance on Apple devices and offering a better quality of service. Microsoft
confirmed that it has now improved the performance of its Xbox Cloud Gaming service for
iPhone and iPad, including optimized video output and network data transfer on Apple devices to speed up the responsiveness of the Xbox Cloud Gaming service.
Microsoft wrote in the announcement that the Xbox Cloud Gaming service has always listened to and valued player feedback and players also want a better gaming experience on iOS and iPadOS devices, so Microsoft brings significant performance improvements to all supported iPhone and iPad devices. Xbox product manager Nicole Hilbert said that through a series of updates, players should have a more responsive and smoother gaming experience. According to statistics, after the improvement, players are more engaged, and playtime has increased by 35%.
It is understood that the main performance improvements include reducing the overall input lag, the delay between the player moving the joystick or pressing the button, and the action appearing on the screen. In fact, over the past year, Microsoft has been making incremental improvements to the Xbox Cloud Gaming service. Microsoft moved the Xbox Cloud Gaming service to 1080P and 60FPS last year, powered by custom Xbox Series X hardware.
In response to the current situation where the Xbox Cloud Gaming service only supports handles and touch screens, Microsoft plans to introduce support for mice and keyboards. Additionally, Microsoft is working on a dedicated Xbox app for TVs, bringing the Xbox Game Pass service to TVs.
