Microsoft has delayed or even cancelled the launch of Surface Hub 2X
The release rhythm of Microsoft’s Surface Hub 2 series is quite interesting. After the release of Surface Hub 2, Microsoft successively launched two different versions of the Surface Hub 2S and Surface Hub 2X devices.
As early as April, Microsoft launched the Surface Hub 2S and said that the Surface Hub 2X will be launched in 2020. The Surface Hub 2S provides almost the same functionality as the Surface Hub 2X but also removes some of the features of the Surface Hub 2.
And now there is news that Microsoft may never release Surface Hub 2X. Brad Sams told media today that Microsoft has delayed the release of the Surface Hub 2X internally and will not ship this year according to the original plan.
Microsoft also removed the initial promotional video for Surface Hub 2 and content about Surface Hub 2X.
A Microsoft spokesperson said:
We have an ongoing dialogue with our customers on Hub and are working to align the roadmap to best meet their needs. The top two priorities for Hub in 2020 are deploying the 85″ device and rolling out an OS update that includes many top features customers have been requesting since Surface Hub 2S launched, including improving IT integration, deployment and management capabilities at no cost for all version 1 Hubs and Hub 2S devices. We’ll have more to share in the coming months.
At this time, we don’t know the exact reason why Microsoft delayed the release of Surface Hub 2X, but obviously the slow development of Windows Core OS has affected the development progress of Surface Hub 2X, and may eventually lead to the cancellation of Surface Hub 2X project.
