Microsoft Edge for Linux will be available on October
At the Ignite 2020 conference that opened on September 22, Microsoft announced that the Edge browser for Linux will be available in the Dev preview channel from October this year. This is the first time there has been new news about Microsoft Edge for Linux since the Build 2020 developer conference in May.
At that time, Linux users can download the preview through the Microsoft Edge Insiders website or from the local Linux package manager. Microsoft will start with Ubuntu and Debian releases, and will gradually support Fedora and OpenSUSE.
At the Ignite 2020 conference, Microsoft focused on its vision of building Edge into an enterprise browser. New features include more diverse management modes, a smoother work experience, and the kiosk mode in the classic Edge. Microsoft also emphasized the security of the Edge browser and said, “We’re proud to report that Microsoft Edge blocked 95.5% of phishing attacks while Chrome only blocked 86.9%. When it comes to preventing a network breach and the potential to lose valuable data or IP, every bit of protection matters.”
After the first preview version is released in October, Edge for Linux will release weekly builds in sync with the Dev channel on Windows and macOS. As for the specific timetable, Microsoft has not yet announced it.
