Microsoft cooperated with Nokia to develop enterprise cloud services based on 4G/5G
Earlier, there were rumors that an American technology company might acquire Nokia. Of course, this refers to Nokia’s network equipment department rather than the mobile phone department.
Many years ago, Microsoft acquired Nokia’s mobile phone division and refused to acquire the network equipment division, which is actually the main division of Nokia now.
Now Nokia’s main business is the licensing of mobile network solutions and various patent portfolios, while the Nokia mobile phone brand licenses HMD to develop Android devices.
Although many rumors in the market will eventually come true, this time the rumored Microsoft acquisition of Nokia did not come true, but the two sides conducted in-depth cooperation.
According to a statement released by Nokia, the company has reached a partnership with Microsoft to develop enterprise 4G/5G dedicated wireless instances for new markets to provide enterprise cloud services.
This cooperation is to combine Nokia’s Cloud RAN, or wireless access network technology, with Microsoft’s Microsoft Azure cloud computing and development ecosystem.
The ultimate goal is to combine Nokia’s mobile network solution and multi-access edge cloud with Microsoft’s private edge area to provide nearby access to reduce network latency.
The purpose of this technology is actually to provide low-latency networks for certain special services, including real-time robots, mixed reality, and immersive games.
Nearby edge access and ultra-low network latency help developers achieve better performance and improve user experience, which can be regarded as a future development trend.
