Microsoft confirms Windows 11 taskbar won’t support moving position

It is a habit for many users to place the taskbar at the top of the screen, but in Windows 11, Microsoft directly does not support taskbar movement. Whether the user wants to move the taskbar to the left, right, or top of the screen, the current taskbar can only be centered or left-aligned at the bottom of the screen. Although many users have actively given feedback to Microsoft, Microsoft has not responded until now, until now Microsoft has made it clear that taskbar movement is not an important feature.

By hovering over open windows on your taskbar, you can quickly share that window with a Microsoft Teams call.

Microsoft’s engineering and product teams recently held an Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA) event, allowing users to ask any question and have it answered by the development team, including the taskbar.

There are a number of challenges when it comes to actually be able to move the taskbar to different locations on the screen. Think about having the taskbar on the right,  all of a sudden the reflow and the work all of the apps or Start menu have to do..” Microsoft said.

To put it simply, in Windows 11, Microsoft refactored the entire taskbar, and the development team must determine which functions have the highest priority and need to be developed in time. Some tasks are high-priority tasks that can be deferred, and some features are considered unimportant so the development team does not need to plan ahead. Unfortunately, the taskbar’s moving functionality falls into the last unimportant features category, so Windows 11 doesn’t currently support moving the taskbar. And Microsoft will not re-support this feature in the short term, and even in the future, there is no clear plan to re-support the movement of various positions for the taskbar.
