Microsoft Announces 30 Months Support for Windows 10 Enterprise and Education Edition
Microsoft plans to provide 18 months of support for each branch of Windows 10, a commitment made by Microsoft when the operating system was first released.
But under normal circumstances, enterprise users need to upgrade every six months, because Microsoft will launch a new major update of Windows 10 every six months.
Even if the company chooses Windows 10 non-directional half-year channels to be updated frequently, it is too much for the enterprise to evaluate each time.
So Microsoft decided to extend support to 30 months:
Microsoft has extended the support period for Windows 10 Enterprise and Education Edition to 30 months directly in the latest release of the support program.
That is, each version will receive security support in the next 30 months from the date of publication, and the company can decide whether to upgrade the new version in sufficient time.
Of course, only for the Enterprise and Education editions, the Windows 10 Professional and Family Edition versions are still maintained for up to 18 months of life support.
From the upcoming October 2018 update:
Since the Windows 10 Version 1803 release has been released for nearly half a year, this support cycle change will not affect the released April update.
But the upcoming release of Windows 10 Version 1809, the October 2018 update, will be available as an initial release and will be available for 30 months.
The Enterprise and Education support cycles for Windows 10 Version 1809 will be extended to around April 2021, based on the latest planned time.
Whether the previous version will be extended or unknown:
Microsoft provides 30 months of support from Windows 10 Version 1809 Enterprise and Education, but the previous version is unknown.
However, there are also reports that even Windows 10 Version 1607/1703/1709/1803 will receive up to 30 months of support after this update.
For those still using the old version of Windows 10 enterprises and educational institutions, you can look at Microsoft’s official announcement later to finalize.
