Microsoft announced that Command Prompt is in maintenance mode
Command Prompt is Microsoft’s original default command-line interpreter in the era of Windows NT. This tool originated in Microsoft’s DOS and Windows 95 era. The command prompt mainly provides administrators with batch processing and script execution, etc.
However, Microsoft has developed PowerShell with more functions at the command prompt, and this tool has been open-sourced to support almost all platforms.
Therefore, there is no need to continue to update the traditional command prompt, so the command prompt enters maintenance mode and will not be updated unless there are major security issues.
The Windows Terminal and Windows Subsystem for Linux pusher says:
I'll keep saying this until y'all stop using Cmd:
Cmd is in maintenance mode. It's job is to preserve back compat with ancient & immutable scripts. That's it. Period. It should not be used for interactive shell work.
PowerShell is the future.

The project manager said that PowerShell is the future, even though there are still quite a few enterprise users who rely on the command prompts to run specific tasks.
Microsoft also urged all users to switch to PowerShell in full and stop using the command prompt. The company will not continue to provide any feature updates in the future.
