Microsoft admits that Windows 10 KB5000802 caused the blue screen of death problem
Microsoft has pushed this month’s cumulative updates (KB5000802) to all versions of Windows 10 the day before yesterday. These cumulative updates are used to fix privilege escalation vulnerabilities in the system’s printing components.
Yesterday, a large number of users have reported that the system exists the BSOD problem after installing the cumulative update, as long as the printer is used, it will trigger the BSOD and seriously affect normal use.
The cumulative update fixes exactly the printer-related issues. Obviously, the blue screen of death this time is related to the cumulative update, and there is an abnormal situation in the cumulative update.
Until last night, Microsoft updated the support document admitting that there was an abnormality in the cumulative update. At present, Microsoft has urgently withdrawn the patch and no longer pushes the patch to users for the time being.
The KB5000802 update is an update launched by Microsoft for Windows 10 20H1/20H2. The update is used to fix the security vulnerabilities of the printer driver.
In fact, the cumulative update of other Windows 10 versions also fixes the vulnerabilities of the printer driver, but there may be fewer users. There are not many users who report the blue screen of death.
According to user feedback, if you use the printer after installing the update, it will directly trigger the blue screen of death. This will not happen if you don’t use the printer.
The corresponding error code is APC_INDEX_MISMATCH for win32kfull.sys. At present, there are no less than 20 users reporting this problem in the Microsoft forum.
In the corresponding feedback post, a large number of users posted that they encountered the same problem, and these users complained that Microsoft releases botched updates every month.
It is worth noting that the patch is automatically installed as a cumulative update, which means that the update will be installed as long as the user does not actively set the pause update.
In view of the serious negative impact of this issue, Microsoft has urgently withdrawn the patch, and currently, this month’s routine cumulative update will no longer be actively pushed to consumers.
Microsoft stated in the support document that it is aware of the problem currently under investigation, but Microsoft did not mention the cause of the problem and when it will be fixed.
