Maxthon browser uses the Chromiun open-source kernel

Maxthon Browser has been very well-known in China and even the global market. The built-in Maxthon kernel and Microsoft Trident can be regarded as one of the earliest dual-core browsers.

Although most browsers have switched to the Chromium kernel, Maxthon browsers have been developing their own kernel products for at least the past 10 years.

Unfortunately, Maxthon, which has an almost negligible market share in the browser market, is also trying to find another way, and that is to switch to Chromium kernel.

Maxthon vulnerability

Maxthon writes on a blog

“For the upcoming era of technology explosion, MX6 chose the Chromiun open-source kernel as the foundation. On one hand, relying on Chromiun’s strong technical background and iterative speed, it builds a more secure, faster and stable platform for all Maxthon users ; On the other hand, it provides a more powerful compatible platform for the new generation of web applications through Chrome addons library.”

In the browser market, the main kernels currently include WebKit developed by Apple, Chromium dominated by Google, and Gecko kernel used by Firefox.

Earlier, Microsoft announced that it would abandon its own Trident kernel-based EdgeHTML to Chromium. Now Maxthon has abandoned its browser kernel.

Looking at the entire browser market, only Firefox is still insisting on developing and using its own kernel, but in fact, Firefox is also struggling to support it.

As for Apple ’s own Safari browser, it is only available on Apple devices. Of course, Apple does not care about Windows and market share at all.

From a competition perspective, of course, more browser brands and the kernel will benefit users, but this situation may be moving in the opposite direction.
