Leica launches Sofort 2 – The latest generation of instant camera after 7 years

After a hiatus of seven years, Leica has recently unveiled its second-generation instant camera: the Sofort 2. A striking departure from its predecessor in terms of aesthetic design, the Sofort 2 sports dimensions of 123 x 86 x 44mm and tips the scales at a mere 320g (excluding film). Leica graces this offering with a triad of color palettes for the discerning photographer.

This photographic marvel is equipped with a 5-megapixel 1/5-inch CMOS sensor. The lens, a Leica Summar, has an equivalent focal length of 28mm and boasts a maximum aperture of f/2. Adorning its posterior is a 3-inch LCD display. According to the technical specifications detailed on Leica’s official site, the Sofort 2 comes with an array of 10 film filters and 10 lens effects. The camera possesses inherent storage capacity, accommodating roughly 45 snapshots, while also offering the flexibility of microSD card expansion. Its charging and data interface is facilitated through USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C.

The term “hybrid instant camera” as emphasized in the headline refers to the Sofort 2’s rather versatile photo processing capabilities. True to the ethos of instant cameras, it can print the photographs it captures. Moreover, once tethered via Bluetooth to the FOTOS mobile application, users can effortlessly transfer images from the camera to their mobile devices and vice versa, enabling the Sofort 2 to print photographs stored on mobile devices.

On the battery front, the Sofort 2 is powered by a 740mAh unit. When fully charged, it promises to deliver around 100 shots, with a recharge cycle spanning approximately 2-3 hours.

Lastly, when it comes to its price point, the Leica Sofort 2 carries an MSRP of 379 euros inclusive of taxes, effectively making it the most budget-friendly option within Leica’s current lineup. It is poised for a global launch on November 9th of this year.
