KB5001028 fixes the blue screen of death when connecting to WPA3 in Windows 10
Microsoft released routine cumulative updates to supported versions of Windows 10 this week, which fix a variety of features and security issues.
Of course, it is no surprise that these updates fix old problems and also bring new problems. For example, the update for Windows 10 v1909 caused the blue screen of death.
Specifically, when users install January cumulative update KB4598298 and February cumulative update KB4601315, both may cause a blue screen of death when connecting to WiFi.
However, according to Microsoft’s instructions, the malfunction will only be caused when the WPA3 security protection mechanism is enabled on the WiFi. If the old version of the WPA2 and other protocols are used, there will be no problem.
When the user has a blue screen of death, it will prompt that the nwifi.sys driver has caused a 0x7E error. If you see this error, you can install the update to fix it.
Microsoft has released an out-of-band update to fix this problem. It seems that this problem affects a lot of users, so Microsoft quickly locates the problem and releases a fix.
The KB5001028 update is only for Windows 10 v1909 version, other versions should not have this problem, so there is no need to fix it.
It is only recommended for users who are affected by the WPA3 issue to install this update, so as to avoid other issues with the update that may cause other problems for unaffected systems.
