Intel will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a new fab on September 24

In March of this year, Intel held a global live broadcast event with the theme “Intel: Engineering the Future”, CEO Pat Gelsinger shared the vision of “IDM 2.0”, explaining how to create long-term value for stakeholders through manufacturing, designing, and delivering products. This is a major innovation in Intel’s IDM model. In order to accelerate the realization of the IDM 2.0 strategy, Intel will substantially expand its production capacity and invest approximately $20 billion to build two new wafer fabs in the Ocotillo campus in Arizona, USA.

After half a year of preparation, Intel announced that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new fab on September 24. Pat Gelsinger and major local government officials will also attend this event, which is the largest private sector investment in the history of Arizona.

In addition, Intel also announced that the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has selected Intel’s next-generation Xeon Scalable processors (Sapphire Rapids), powered the supercomputer in the NNSA life extension program. NNSA’s Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has signed a subcontract with Dell, and the new supercomputer will be deployed in NNSA’s Tri-Labs.

Intel’s next-generation Xeon Scalable processors and Dell EMC PowerEdge servers in the CTS-2 contract will be optimized for high-performance computing workloads, accelerating modeling and simulation, artificial intelligence, and high-performance data analysis, replace the ASC system purchased in the 2015 CTS-1 contract.
