Intel Announces Construction of Assembly and Test Facility in Poland

Intel has announced its decision to construct a novel semiconductor assembly and testing facility in the vicinity of Wroclaw, situated in the southwestern part of Poland. This initiative is anticipated to satisfy Intel’s essential needs for assembly and testing capacities by 2027. The design and planning for the new facility will commence promptly, while construction will await approval from the European Commission.

Intel expects to invest approximately $4.6 billion and foresees the need for about 2000 employees to operate the facility. In addition to this, the construction of the facility is likely to generate thousands of job opportunities. The new facility will demand a considerable quantity of engineers, operators, and equipment technicians. Intel regards Poland as a stronghold of technical talents, with several prestigious universities boasting strong engineering programs, which will influence the operation of Intel’s Polish factory for the ensuing thirty years.

Currently, Intel undertakes multiple semiconductor engineering projects in Europe, which includes a wafer fabrication plant in Leixlip, Ireland, a planned wafer fabrication plant in Magdeburg, Germany, and this assembly and testing plant in Poland. Intel contends that these projects will assist Europe in constructing its first avant-garde semiconductor manufacturing value chain, and simultaneously act as a catalyst for investment and innovation in Poland’s and the entire European Union’s semiconductor ecosystems. Intel envisions a close collaboration among the three factories, enhancing the resilience and cost-efficiency of the European semiconductor supply chain.

Intel avows its commitment to maintaining high environmental standards across its global business operations and is dedicated to sustainable development. The plan in Wroclaw, Poland, mirrors this commitment. The construction will follow green building principles, aiming to minimize carbon footprint and environmental impact to the greatest possible extent.
