India has become the second-largest smartphone market after China
According to the survey results by Counterpoint Research statistics, it is currently estimated that India’s smartphone market has surpassed the United States and has become the world’s second-largest smartphone market after China.
Counterpoint Research pointed out that India’s smartphone shipments in 2019 were 158 million, an increase of 7% year-on-year. Analysts believe that this largely depends on the continuous expansion of Chinese mobile phone manufacturers in the Indian market. They not only provide low prices for mobile phones but also launch a wealth of promotional activities.
According to the survey, 72% of India’s mobile phones are produced by Chinese mobile phone manufacturers, including Xiaomi, vivo, Realme, and OPPO. Due to the strong performance of the Redmi Note series, India has become the largest Xiaomi mobile phone market outside China.
Due to the launch of the iPhone 11 series and the price reduction of the iPhone XR, Apple also became one of the fastest-growing companies in the fourth quarter of 2019.
In fact, the main reason that India can surpass the United States in smartphone shipments is because of their large population and the emerging era of mobile internet. With the continuous development of mobile internet in India, the Indian smartphone market will also maintain a high-speed upward trend, and will also allow more smartphone manufacturers to consider the needs of the Indian market when designing new phones.
