IBM launches Kui and Iter8 to make Kubernetes development easier
On Monday, IBM announced two new open-source tools for use with the Kubernetes ecosystem at Kubecon, namely Kui and iter8.
Among them, Kui is designed as a single tool to help developers navigate between different CLIs associated with each part of the solution. Kui combines the familiar CLI capabilities with visualization to help with complex data. Kui is designed for cloud-native development and supports Kubernetes and its ecosystem. Kui helps developers seamlessly interact with multiple tools to minimize context switching and do more work in one place. Currently, IBM has begun to introduce Kui into the IBM Cloud product designed to help simplify the developer experience.
Iter8 is a new Istio ecosystem toolchain designed to help developers benefit from the rich data and telemetry that Istio collects. It can be used for canary and A/B testing as well as troubleshooting, allowing developers to identify and resolve application issues earlier in the process. With Iter8, developers can more seamlessly compare versions of their applications to confirm their continued use of the new version, analyze the behavior of microservices over time to identify or even predict problems, and better understand in the environment.
In addition, IBM announced the progress of the Tekton and Razee projects to help promote continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI / CD) of Kubernetes-based applications. Tekton is Kubernetes’ native open-source framework for creating continuous integration and delivery of CI/CD systems. Razee is a new open-source continuous delivery tool that helps manage applications on a large scale.
