Google will start testing new smart glasses devices in August

At Google I/O 2022 held in May this year, Google demonstrated a smart glasses device with a translation function, which is expected to be tested in more realistic scenarios from August this year. This allows Google to take a deeper look at what features are needed in smart glasses products, and how these features will be used.

Google expects to conduct testing through internal employees and selected partners, which will use prototypes with cameras, microphones, and display lenses. In this way, Google can evaluate the prompt functions such as translation, real-time subtitles, audio, images, etc., and confirm the experience of wearing and using in different situations.

According to Juston Payne, product manager of Google AR and VR department, through actual scene testing, it will be able to confirm whether different functions are suitable for the actual wearing experience of smart glasses. During the test, Juston Payne also explained that it is impossible to take pictures or video through the glasses, and all the data used will be deleted after the test. Except for certain circumstances, it will be reserved for adjustment and analysis, but privacy content involving faces, license plates, house numbers, etc. will be removed, even if the data used for research will be removed after 30 days.

As for the current smart glasses, it is still in a fairly early stage of research and development, and there is no specific listing plan for the time being.
