Google will add power-saving technologies from Microsoft Edge to Chrome

Microsoft Edge browsers have always been proud that they have lower power consumption than browsers such as Chrome. Because Microsoft uses the Chromium rendering engine for the new version of Edge browsers, they have also uploaded some Edge features to the Chromium Microsoft Edge browser.

“Chrome Cunningham”, an engineer on the Google Chrome team, recently confirmed that Google is planning to add these features and functions submitted by Microsoft in Chrome, and will begin testing in the near future.

Below is three major improvements that Chrome will welcome:

  1. Reduce cache during video watching: Cache into memory to avoid unnecessary hard drive cache while watching the video, thereby extending the idle time of the hard drive and also extending battery life.
  2. Detect whether to use complex power-saving technologies by detecting the power status: By detecting whether the computer is plugged into a power source or a battery is installed, it is determined whether the browser needs to use more sophisticated power-saving technologies (which can improve the browsing experience).
  3. Compare file sizes to determine whether to cache.
