Google rebrands its virtual telecom service as Google Fi Wireless
In response to the long-standing proprietary virtual telecommunications service Google Fi, Google recently announced a name change to Google Fi Wireless, accompanied by a new visual identity and the addition of a 7-day free trial service.
In fact, since late March of this year, Google has been testing its free trial service on a small scale. With the renaming to Google Fi Wireless, the 7-day free trial has been expanded for everyone to experience. For users with eSIM-compatible phones, the service can be quickly activated via the Google Fi Wireless app, although currently, it remains exclusive to users within the United States, with no immediate plans for international expansion.
Regarding usage plans, there have been no significant changes. The basic Flexible plan maintains a monthly base fee of $20, with a $10 per GB data charge (capped at 6GB, after which unlimited usage applies). Within the United States, Canada, and Mexico, free calling and texting services are provided, along with the same data rates available worldwide. Family and multi-user plans are also available.
The Flexible plan and the advanced Unlimited Plus plan also include services that enable internet connectivity for Pixel Watch. The Simply Unlimited plan is now open for use, with added support for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
Earlier, Google announced that its virtual telecommunications service would enable 5G internet functionality on iPhones. As for iPhone SE, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone 11 models from 2020 onwards, they can also utilize Google Fi Wireless services via eSIM.
