Google Play Games will come to Windows in 2022
It is interesting to say that although Microsoft has adopted very aggressive strategies to compete with Google in some aspects, Google usually does not take very obvious competitive measures.
For example, with regard to ChromeOS’ share in the education market, Microsoft has successively released Windows 10 S and Windows 11 SE in an attempt to seize the education market share.
In the Windows 11 development version, Microsoft also launched an Android subsystem built on an open-source project, allowing users to run Android applications directly on the desktop.
The latest news is that Google is also preparing to bring Android games to Windows in 2022, but it is not clear whether it will use an emulator or other technologies.
“Starting in 2022, players will be able to experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PCs,” says Greg Hartrell, Google’s product director of games on Android and Google Play, in a statement to The Verge. “This Google built product brings the best of Google Play Games to more laptops and desktops, and we are thrilled to expand our platform for players to enjoy their favorite Android games even more.”
To enable players to enjoy Android platform games on more platforms, this will be a native Windows application distributed by Google, supporting Windows 10 and Windows 11.
It is worth noting that Google emphasizes that only Google Play Games are supported and is a local solution, and will not provide any games involving streaming media.
By logging in to a Google account, players can seamlessly synchronize game progress on multiple platforms. For players, at least they can have multiple choices in terms of game platforms.
