Google and Parallels reach cooperation to bring Windows apps support to Chrome OS
Google today announced a partnership with Parallels, a well-known virtualization software developer. Parallels is a developer of the well-known virtual machine software Parallels Desktop. This virtual machine is a virtualization software specifically for Mac devices that can be used to install virtual machines such as Windows.
The cooperation between Google and Parallels is actually for the Windows ecosystem software. Google Chrome OS itself is based on the Linux operating system, so it cannot directly run applications on the Windows platform. However, Google is vigorously promoting devices such as ChromeOS and Chromebook, so if you can get Windows applications, it will usher in soaring.
At present, Google’s plan is not for ordinary consumers, but for users of Chrome Enterprise Edition, to provide more software support for these enterprise users and users on the cloud. Currently, Chrome OS mainly supports progressive web applications such as Android applications and PWA.
The partnership between Parallels and Google will empower enterprises to:
- Seamlessly add full-featured Windows apps, including Microsoft Office, to Chromebook Enterprise devices
- Enable efficient, productive and collaborative work anytime from anywhere
- Eliminate additional hardware costs and minimize total cost of ownership (TCO)
