In fact, as early as last month, some consumers said that Google would acquire Raxium. The Information stated in the report that AR display devices produced with MicroLED technology can be more energy-efficient while maintaining bright colors. The company called Raxium has been established for 5 years and mainly focuses on the technology of MicroLED. According to its official website, its MicroLED technology can narrow the center point distance between pixels to only 3.5 microns, compared to 50 microns for AMOLED screens used on smartphones.

Raxium is currently researching the monolithic integration of MicroLED. After acquiring Raxium, Google’s AR development will benefit a lot. Google is also reportedly hiring engineers to develop an AR operating system. In January of this year, The Verge reported that Google is developing a new AR headset or device called Project Iris.

Google’s current main AR competitors are Microsoft, Apple, and Meta, all of which have invested a lot of resources in developing their own devices. Rick Osterloh believes that Raxium’s expertise in display technology will be an important part of Google’s future investment in building its own devices.
