Google acquires CloudSimple to strengthen cloud computing capabilities
Google has acquired another small company, CloudSimple, to strengthen its cloud computing business. CloudSimple’s software helps organizations run compute workloads based on VMware’s server virtualization technology. The terms of the acquisition were not announced. Cloud computing is Google’s future growth opportunity. According to market research firm Gartner, Google’s cloud computing platform has a lower market share than Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure.
In July, Google said that the cloud computing business, including the enterprise-oriented productivity software G Suite, has an annual revenue rate of $8 billion, double the number at the beginning of 2018. Many large companies use VMware tools to run data centers. In recent years, VMware itself has begun to provide systems on top of cloud computing provider infrastructure to simplify the deployment of cloud computing. In July of this year, Google announced a partnership with CloudSimple to provide customers with better VMware support.
CloudSimple supports Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Computing and has previously received venture capital from the Microsoft M12 division. The company was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. According to information on LinkedIn, CloudSimple has approximately 75 employees. The company’s CEO, Guru Pangal, was previously the general manager of Microsoft. He also co-founded StorSimple, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2012.
