GNOME default text editor gedit announces no longer maintained
GNOME desktop environment default text editor, one of the core applications of gedit no longer maintained, its latest stable version is 3.24.3. Gedit developer Sébastien Wilmet asked on the mailing list that there is no developer interested in taking over the maintenance work. He mentions that the maintainer will need to deal with four programming languages: the core of gedit is written in C, support for Objective-C for Mac OS X, plugins written in Vala or Python, and Python code is not compiled.
Gedit had a UI change a few years ago, the changed UI became very difficult to use, many people believe that this is the reason for the decline of gedit.
