Galaxy Z Fold 5 features larger internal and external screens
Samsung recently announced that it will hold its biannual Unpacked event on July 26th, focusing primarily on foldable phones in lieu of the discontinued Galaxy Note series. As per usual, Samsung’s new offerings – Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series of tablets – have been leaked ahead of schedule.
Remarkably, Samsung has already unveiled its fifth generation of foldable screens. Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 was a commendable offering, and the new Galaxy Z Fold 5 appears to be a subtle refinement of its predecessor. According to renderings released by the German website WinFuture, the new generation of foldables mainly features larger internal and external screens, maintaining a similar design elsewhere with only minor adjustments to the shape of the camera area. There have been reports that Samsung has also improved the hinge of the new device, which purportedly leaves a less noticeable crease – an area where Samsung’s foldable phones have historically lagged behind competitors.
Much like its sibling, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 also seems to be a modest update to the existing model, sporting a slightly larger external screen but no significant changes in other exterior aspects. Internally, however, both the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 are expected to feature more robust hardware, likely integrating the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 platform. The camera specifications should also see some enhancement.
The Galaxy Tab S9 series of tablets are slated to receive only internal hardware upgrades, with no significant external changes, available in standard, Plus, and Ultra versions. Notably, the Ultra version features a ‘notch’ display, a rarity in the world of tablets. It’s clear from these updates that Samsung is adopting a conservative upgrade strategy for its products in the latter half of this year. Of course, these are just industry rumors at this point, and we will have to await Samsung’s official announcement for a clear picture of their new product line.
