Former Turn 10 director promoted to head of Xbox Game Studios

Drawing from reports across multiple media outlets, Alan Hartman, head of Turn 10 Studios, recently announced on LinkedIn his elevation to head of Xbox Game Studios, succeeding Matt Booty.

“Thrilled to be representing such an elite set of game creators in my new role leading Xbox Game Studios!,” wrote Alan Hartman on LinkedIn.

Hartman joined Turn 10 in 2005. As studio head, his primary responsibilities included overseeing game production (notably the ‘Forza Motorsport’ series) and the development of the ForzaTech engine. The ForzaTech engine, beyond its use in the main ‘Forza Motorsport’ titles and the spin-off ‘Forza Horizon’ series, has also been applied in the development of the new ‘Fable’ title.

In his new role as head of Xbox Game Studios, Hartman will oversee all 14 studios within the fold, including 343 Industries (known for the ‘Halo’ series), The Coalition (responsible for the ‘Gears of War’ series), and Obsidian Entertainment (creators of ‘The Outer Worlds’ and ‘Avowed’).

It’s worth noting that the former head, Matt Booty, was promoted in October to President of Xbox Game Studios, overseeing the wide array of studios including those under the Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda umbrellas (such as Arkane and id Software). Currently, the Xbox gaming empire is divided into three distinct entities: Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda Softworks, and the recently acquired Activision Blizzard, each operating autonomously.
