Edward Snowden has obtained permanent residency in Russia

Edward Snowden is a former employee of the CIA. Snowden fled to Russia in the early years because he exposed the large-scale surveillance of the CIA.

The top-secret surveillance program implemented by the CIA is called the Prism Project, so the incident exposed by Snowden is also called the Prism Gate incident.

Through the Prism Plan, the United States has implemented surveillance on China, Russia, EU countries, and Latin American countries, and senior politicians including the US allies are also under surveillance.

After the exposure of the Prism plan, Edward Snowden fled to Russia to seek asylum. Under normal circumstances, Russia will regularly issue a residence permit to Snowden and provide asylum.

Edward Snowden’s residence permit in Russia actually expired in the spring, but the application procedures related to the new coronavirus epidemic have also been suspended.

However, Russia seems to be prepared to solve this problem at one time, so Russia has now issued a permanent residence permit to Edward Snowden without regular renewal.

Edward Snowden, who has obtained a permanent residence permit, can continue to receive asylum in Russia, so at least his life should be guaranteed for the time being.

The news has been confirmed by Edward Snowden’s lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, but Snowden himself has not yet issued an explanation on these permanent residence permit issues.

Snowden, who has lived in Russia for a long time, naturally wants to return to the United States. However, returning to the United States now ends up being tried for the crime of leaking secrets and treason.

Because the US government still wants to capture Snowden and bring it back to the US for trial, even though the US court has ruled that the surveillance implemented by the US Central Intelligence Agency is illegal.

There are also many people and non-profit organizations in the United States calling on the US government to let Snowden go. However, the US government remains unmoved and still hopes to try Snowden.

Snowden stated that he is willing to return to the United States if he can receive a fair trial in the United States. Of course, based on the current situation, Snowden will not receive a fair trial.
