Chrome OS 80 will bring support for Android apps on your Chromebook

Over the years, users have been calling on Google to bring support for running Android apps for Chromebooks. Now, with the announcement of the Chrome OS 80, we are finally closer to this goal. Earlier this week, About Chromebooks, noticed a non-public bug and corresponding code changes that brought functionality support for Android apps on the Android container on the Chromebook.

To experience this feature, add a special line of commands when launching the Costostini container – when starting from the Chromebook command line, add –enable-features=ArcAdbSideloading.

In the end, we hope this will be an explicit flag. As described in the changelog, users can selectively disable or enable this feature through Group Policy hosted on their Chromebook.

In the internal message list, the principle is further explained from the perspective of the end-user. Once the feature is in place, users will be able to download and install (side-load) Android apps from sources other than the official Play Store.
