Apple, Google, and Mozilla team up to develop next-gen browser benchmarks

If you need to score your browser, the Speedometer tool developed by Apple‘s WebKit team is a good choice. In order to further enhance the user’s browsing experience, WebKit recently announced that it will cooperate with developers of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to develop Speedometer 3, a new generation of the benchmark.

It is not difficult to understand that the browser kernels developed by the above three companies occupy the top three positions in the world, especially the Chromium kernel is used by multiple browsers. Therefore, their cooperation is obviously beneficial to improve the performance of the browser. For the development of Speedometer 3, Google said it will incorporate an updated JavaScript framework into the benchmark.

It should be noted that this collaboration was announced on December 16th, which also means that Speedometer 3 is still in the development stage and is not stable, but you can still access it through the page on GitHub. At the same time, the developer also pointed out that it is more appropriate to use Speedometer 2.1 for testing at this stage.

According to the Chrome and Firefox developer’s statement, this development will adopt a joint management model and will cooperate with the website, framework, browser developers, and standards development groups. With so many forces involved, I believe Speedometer 3 will bring a different scene to future browsers this time.
