AMD will showcase FSR 2.0 at GDC 2022, launch RSR technology on March 17
AMD will host a series of conferences at the upcoming GDC 2022, covering a variety of graphics topics, showcasing the latest research results in the graphics technology upgrade project. These sessions cover game optimization, development kits, rendering, and ray tracing, and one of the topics covered next-generation image scaling technology.
According to VideoCardz, AMD’s next-generation image scaling technology includes FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and Radeon Super Resolution (RSR). As many have guessed, FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 is coming, after developers from CapFrameX claimed to have seen the demo.
AMD will officially announce FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 and make related presentations in 2022 Q2. It is understood that the algorithm of FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 will be changed from spatial scaling to time scaling, combined with optimized anti-aliasing technology to present better image quality. Like the previous FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0, FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 does not require AI-assisted machine learning to be implemented, but in the leaked information, AMD didn’t say anything about performance or confirm which GPUs would be supported, saying only that it would support a wide range of products and platforms.
Radeon Super Resolution is an algorithmically evolved version of FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0, but the quality is lower than FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0. It is built into the driver level, and the advantage is that it can support almost any game without optimization, but only RDNA and RDNA 2 architecture GPUs can support it. Allegedly, AMD will launch Radeon Super Resolution on March 17, which is also the release time of the new version of the driver.
