AMD launches RYZEN 5000 processors with Zen 3 architecture
A few days ago, AMD held a virtual event to announce its new Zen 3 architecture, which will also be used on AMD’s new RYZEN desktop processors at a later date.
The new architecture is still based on the 7nm process node but the frequency has been significantly improved. AMD said that Zen 3 has a 19% increase in frequency compared with the previous version.
The CPU also uses a new design that the cores are arranged in an 8-core assembly, which reduces the communication delay of the cores and allows all cores to access the L3 cache.
Even with the same process node, the new architecture is expected to achieve higher performance per watt, and the final product performance of the Zen 3 architecture can be increased by 24% compared with the previous version.
It stands to reason that the new processor products launched this time should use the 4000 series in terms of naming, but the company believes that the 4000 series is not equipped with Zen 3 architecture performance.
Therefore, AMD skipped the RYZEN 4000 series name and adopted the RYZEN 5000 series name, mainly to prevent users from a misunderstanding in product selection.
For example, the RYZEN 4000 series is currently used in AMD mobile platform processors, and this series of processors have the same architecture as the RYZEN 3000 desktop processor.
This may make some consumers think that the new Zen 3 processor is the same as the RYZEN 4000 mobile platform processor, so AMD thinks it is necessary to change the name.
Finally, all the new products launched this time are named after the RYZEN 5000 series, including RYZEN 5950X, 5900X, 5800X and 5600X, etc.
