AMD execs get huge bonuses: CEO performance bonus exceeds $900,000

Earlier this month, AMD approved annual bonuses for its CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, and at least four vice presidents, with substantial incomes. In contrast, Intel’s management team is facing pay cuts and suspension of bonuses. It’s worth noting that a year ago, Intel’s CEO Pat Gelsinger optimistically stated that AMD was in their “rearview mirror” in the client market.

According to Tom’s Hardware, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su received a performance bonus of $918,800. SEC documents also mention four vice presidents who received bonuses ranging from $300,000 to $375,000, such as the Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Mark Papermaster, who is responsible for AMD’s engineering, research and development, and entire product development department.

Due to lower-than-expected revenue and profits, Intel recently announced that its management team would take pay cuts, with CEO Pat Gelsinger leading a 25% salary reduction, the administrative leadership team experiencing a 15% pay cut, other senior management personnel experiencing a 10% pay cut, and mid-level management personnel experiencing a 5% pay cut. In addition, Intel has canceled quarterly bonuses and suspended annual bonuses. Intel is cutting costs and reducing project investments to free up more cash to weather this challenging period.

Although there is considerable overlap in some specific market segments, there are key differences in corporate structure and operations. For example, Intel’s financial performance is heavily influenced by its semiconductor manufacturing, while AMD does not have this burden and is more flexible and agile. The global economic downturn is the main reason affecting Intel and AMD’s revenue, combined with other factors impacting the entire industry. However, industry insiders believe that the situation will improve in the second half of the year.
