AMD cooperates with ECARX to build the next-generation electric vehicles

AMD announced that it has reached strategic cooperation with ECARX, and the two parties will work together to build an in-vehicle computing platform suitable for the next generation of electric vehicles (EVs). It is expected to be mass-produced by the end of 2023 and launched on the global market. ECARX’s digital cockpit will be the first in-vehicle platform built with AMD Ryzen Embedded V2000 processors, Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, and ECARX software and hardware.

AMD said that the combination of ECARX’s extensive experience in automotive digital cockpit design with AMD’s advanced computing power and excellent visual graphics rendering capabilities aims to provide an innovative in-vehicle experience. The next-generation digital cockpit features advanced features including driver information modules, head-up display systems, rear-seat entertainment, multi-screen displays, multi-zone voice recognition, gaming, and a 3D user experience.

As car companies seek to deliver immersive experiences and intelligent features for their next-generation electric vehicles, the AMD-powered ECARX digital cockpit will address these needs for the global automotive market,” said Rajneesh Gaur, corporate vice president and general manager, Embedded Business, AMD. “We are excited to work with ECARX as our first strategic ecosystem partner in China for the digital cockpit using our Ryzen Embedded V2000 processors and Radeon RX 6000 Series GPUs.

According to data provided by the analysis agency Strategy Analytics, the electric vehicle market and the enabling technologies required will have unprecedented growth opportunities over the next few years, with an expected CAAGR of 31% between 2021 and 2026, a new era of electric vehicles has arrived.
