Western Digital released a variety of 22TB HDD for Smart Video, NAS and IT/Data Center Channel Segments

Western Digital announced that it has launched a variety of 22TB hard drives, targeting three key areas: the WD Gold series for data centers; the WD Red Pro series for NAS; and the WD Purple Pro series for surveillance equipment. These hard drives utilize Western Digital’s OptiNAND technology, energy-assisted PMR (ePMR), triple-stage actuator (TSA), and HelioSeal to provide the industry’s highest single-disk 2.2TB capacity, all of which are CMR hard drives.

We are thrilled to reach this milestone as HDDs are complex and sophisticated systems,” said Ravi Pendekanti, senior vice president of product management and marketing, HDD Business Unit at Western Digital. “From the cloud to the edge, Western Digital’s hard drives play a vital role in storing, protecting, capturing and analyzing data that’s shaping nearly every aspect of our digital lives. Our technology leadership and expanded portfolio of industry-leading HDDs provide us with a tremendous opportunity to deliver value to our customers today and well into the future.

Western Digital said that on the 22TB WD Gold, the ArmorCache write cache data security function has been added, providing an MTBF of up to 2.5 million hours to adapt to harsh storage environments. Designed for NAS systems up to 24 bays, the 22TB WD Red Pro is optimized for multi-user environments and designed to handle intense workloads in a 24×7 environment. The 22TB Purple Pro supports Western Digital’s unique AllFrame AI technology, supports 32 AI streams, can handle up to 64 single-stream HD cameras, and also supports a 24×7 working environment and an MTBF of 2.5 million hours.
