The first consumer PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe SSDs have just gone on sale in Japan for a price of $385

The PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe SSD of CFD Gaming, a famous Japanese solid-state drive manufacturer, has been officially launched in Japan, with three capacity specifications of 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. The 2TB capacity is priced at $385 or 49,980 yen.

CFD Gaming’s SSD series features up to 10 GB/s read speed and 9.5 GB/s write speed, 1500K IOPs, and a 3-year warranty. The SSD is based on Micron’s 3D TLC NAND and uses a DDR4 DRAM cache. The product has three specifications of 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB, corresponding to the models CSSD-M2M4TPG5NFZ, CSSD-M2M2TPG5NFZ, and CSSD-M2M1TPG5NFZ. According to Wccftech, a 2TB SSD with the model number “CSSD-M2M2TPG5NFZ” has been put on the shelves in several Japanese stores, with a price tag of 49,980 yen, equivalent to about $385, and currently, the fastest PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe SSD Samsung 990 Pro 2TB has a retail price of $309. It can be calculated that the former is about 13% more expensive than the latter.

In addition, the CFD Gaming PCIe Gen 5.0 NVMe has functions such as Smart Data Processing, Predict & Fetch, and SLC Caching. The SSD is also equipped with a small active fan heatsink consisting of a circular heat sink with a centrally located 20mm fan and a 45cm 5V connection cable. According to CFD Gaming, the active cooling of SSDs is suitable for extreme use cases, such as games and applications that move a large amount of data. In other cases, users can use hard drives in passive cooling mode, but they need to ensure good air circulation in the PC case.

Not long ago, CORSAIR released the demo video of MP700 PCI-E 5.0 SSD, GALAX also released its PCIe 5.0 SSD HOF EXTREME 50, and PCI-E 5.0 SSD is getting closer and closer to consumers.
