Microsoft is exploring the possibility of launching a cheap Xbox Game Pass

According to a report from Windows Central, Microsoft may launch a cheaper Xbox Game Pass subscription service, but it is still in the research stage. In a reply to a thread on ResetEra, Microsoft sent a survey to some players in Europe to collect their opinions on this project.

From the questionnaire, you can see the general content of this cheap Xbox Game Pass service. The first is the price. Compared with the current Xbox Game Pass of 9.99 euros at 2.99 euros per month, it can be said to be several times cheaper. Even compared to the Xbox Game Pass Family and Friends plan, which costs 21.99 euros for a subscription shared by up to five people, the new service is still a little cheaper than the flat-out price.

And this cheap Xbox Game Pass has no shrinkage in the game library, and more importantly, it allows players to use the console to play online games, that is, the function of having an Xbox Gold membership, which even the 9.99 Euro Xbox Game Pass cannot do.

For the price difference, Microsoft’s idea is to use advertisements to make up for it. Microsoft recently applied for a patent for the function of displaying personalized advertisements in games. Through a technology that predicts the frequency of in-game operations, Xbox will be able to place corresponding advertisements in operations based on user data and privacy settings. For example, when the game is on the loading screen and the player has nothing to do, it is very likely that a Microsoft advertisement will pop up.

Of course, it must be reiterated that this project is still in the research stage, and whether it will be implemented is still unknown.
