Linux Kernel 4.17 reach EOL, users upgrade to 4.18 as soon as possible

Earlier this week, the Linux Kernel 4.17 kernel branch received the 19th maintenance release update, which is the last maintenance update for the branch and will no longer receive updates. The Linux Kernel 4.17 branch was released on June 3, 2018, by Linus Torvalds, and added support for Intel Cannon Lake architecture and NVIDIA Tegra Xavier in hardware support.

Also, the branch supports the Andes NDS32 RISC architecture and AMD’s upcoming Radeon Vega 12 graphics processor and removes support for some microarchitectures such as Blackfin, CRIS, FR-V, M32R, Metag, MN10300, SCORE and TILE.

Greg Kroah-Hartman wrote in the mail log:

“Note, this is the LAST 4.17.y kernel to be released, it is now end-of-life. Pleas move to 4.18.y at this time.

All users of the 4.17 kernel series must upgrade.”
