LG launches a new generation of OLED.EX technology

On the eve of CES 2022, LG revealed that its OLED screen technology will have major improvements. The new OLED technology is called OLED EX and will appear in the new OLED TVs in the second quarter of next year. LG said that the appeal of the new technology lies in its extremely fast response time, narrower frame, and higher brightness.

The OLED screen has millions of pixels that emit light independently, without the need for a separate backlight. This unique feature allows OLED.EX to achieve perfect black, rich and accurate color performance, and extremely fast response time. One of the major changes of OLED.EX (full name OLED Evolution eXperience) is the use of deuterium compounds to produce high-efficiency organic light-emitting diodes that emit stronger light. For the first time, the hydrogen element present in organic light-emitting elements is converted into stable deuterium and applied to OLED.EX. Combined with personalized algorithms to enhance the stability and efficiency of organic light-emitting diodes, thereby improving overall display performance and effects.

Since the first OLED TV was mass-produced in 2013, LG has been continuously improving OLED technology to provide the most realistic images beyond the limitations of traditional displays. The new OLED.EX technology raises image accuracy and brightness to a new level to accurately present delicate and lifelike details and colors without any distortion.

LG Display plans to strengthen its leadership and product competitiveness in the large-sized OLED business by integrating OLED.EX technology into all OLED TV displays manufactured at its OLED production plants in Paju, South Korea, and in Guangzhou, China, starting from the second quarter of 2022. Compared with the existing 65-inch OLED TV, the frame of the new product is reduced from 6 mm to 4 mm, a 30% reduction.
