Apple iPhone 12 material cost is about $373
Every time a new iPhone is launched, various dismantlings are not rare. After dismantling, there are naturally organizations that estimate the overall cost of the equipment based on the hardware materials used by Apple.
Some organizations have now disassembled the iPhone 12 and provided the material cost. The report stated that the hardware material cost of the iPhone 12 is $373.
You might think that the super-performance A14 processor has the highest cost, but in fact, the highest material cost is the OLED screen used in the iPhone 12 series. For Apple, the gross profit of each new machine may reach 50% or even higher.
The cost of the OLED screen used by Apple, including the supporting driver chip, is about $70, and the price of Apple’s self-developed A14 chip is $40.
The cost of the memory chip provided by Samsung is about $19.2, the cost of the memory provided by SK Hynix is about $12.8, and the cost of CMOS provided by Sony is about $7.4 – $7.9.

There is also an analysis agency that disassembles and analyzes the iPhone 12 Pro. The agency predicts that the hardware material cost of the iPhone 12 Pro will be around $514. Of course, these analyses are for reference only because the accuracy is difficult to say.
What’s interesting is that the analysis agency also said that Apple’s cancellation of the complimentary charger and earphones reduced the cost by $22.5, because it reduced the cost of test assembly and support materials.
The disassembly and analysis of these parts can also measure the proportion of revenues obtained by supply chain companies in various countries. The highest proportion of revenue in iPhone 12 is South Korean companies.
South Korea accounted for 27.3%, the United States accounted for 25.6%, Japan accounted for 13.2%, China Taiwan accounted for 12.10%, mainland China accounted for 4.7%, and other 17.1%.
South Korea’s supply chain companies accounted for the highest proportion, mainly providing higher-priced OLED screens, memory chips, and memory. In fact, they are mainly Samsung and SK Hynix.
Compared with the iPhone 11, the share of Korean parts increased by 9.1%, while the American and Japanese parts declined in the iPhone 12 (0.2%, 0.6%, respectively).
