Microsoft officially confirms price increases for first-party games built for Xbox Series X|S

Today, Microsoft issued a statement through IGN, confirming that the price of new first-party games released in 2023 will increase from $60 to $70. Other game publishers will follow suit, at least Xbox Series X/S games are inevitable.

A Microsoft spokesperson said that the new price reflects the content, scale, and technical complexity of the game, and like all games developed by its development team on Xbox, it will be added to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service when it first launches.

Although many people have speculated that Microsoft may increase prices, it is generally believed that it is the Xbox Series X/S game console or game subscription service. The final result is that the price of the game will increase first, and the remaining question is whether other aspects will follow. IGN has contacted Microsoft to see if there is a possibility of a price increase for the Xbox Series X/S but has not received a response. After Sony announced the PlayStation 5 price increase in August this year, Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox business, said that he would not follow up on this practice.

It is understood that the games that have confirmed the price increase include the new works of “Forza Motorsport”, “Redfall” and “Starfield”, also next year should be Avowed, Contraband, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. Since the pricing in different regions may be different, the specific price adjustment depends on the actual selling price in the region at the time of release.
