HTC VR headset VIVE XR Elite details revealed

A while back we posted a piece of news about HTC’s new VR headset, but other than an overview of features, the machine itself and details like the exact price haven’t been revealed yet. On the eve of CES 2023, Twitter user @inscothen exposed the appearance, name, and even price of this headset through data mining.

First, XR hardware analyst Brad Lynch tweeted out multiple photos of the headset, along with its name and price. This headset is called VIVE XR Elite, which does not seem to belong to any of the current HTC VIVE series from the name alone.

In terms of appearance, as mentioned in the previous news, in order to compete with Meta Quest Pro, the design of VIVE XR Elite is indeed lighter.
In terms of details, its battery is located at the back of the head, and it is connected to the front computing and display components through a cable with an interface on the right. This may not look as good as the Pico 4 and Meta Quest Pro, which also have a rear battery and hide the wires in the headband, but we speculate that this design allows users to quickly replace the battery. It can also be converted to a wired power supply or the headset can be used as a wired PCVR. Of course, although we don’t see more USB Type-C interfaces from the picture, it cannot be inferred that VIVE XR Elite-only relies on this interface for power supply and data transmission.

As for the display part, the ring-shaped plastic knob around the lens is the diopter adjustment dial. This design is consistent with VIVE Flow and supports adjustments in the range of 0-600 degrees. It is more friendly to users who do not want to wear glasses to experience VR. The dial at the bottom on the right is the interpupillary distance adjustment dial.

On the front and side of the headset, there are several tracking cameras and a color camera. The color camera is in the center, and the one above it should be what HTC calls the depth sensor, which is the component that Meta Quest Pro gave up in the retail version. This part can help VIVE XR Elite achieve a better color perspective.

As for the price, according to the data mining of netizens, the price of this headset will be around $1,400.
