Game peripheral manufacturers expect the supply of game consoles to gradually improve

Shortages in the semiconductor supply chain affect many electronic products, and game consoles are no exception. Recently, Juergen Stark, CEO, and chairman of gaming peripherals company Turtle Beach said in the first quarter 2022 financial earnings conference call with investors (Q1 2022), that although supply constraints continue to affect console shipments, they are gradually improving in a positive direction, and by the end of this year, the shortage will be greatly alleviated.

Turtle Beach expects to go into the holiday season with significantly improved supplies and shorter delivery times. Under normal circumstances, Turtle Beach will place orders in advance, so that even if the delivery time is extended, it will not affect the supply of the market, and Sony and Microsoft do the same with orders for game consoles. Juergen Stark said that as the supply shortages that have prevailed in the semiconductor industry over the past year or so have made many companies accustomed to estimating delivery cycles and ensuring sufficient lead times, the same is true for Sony and Microsoft.

Recent data shows that hardware sales of the Xbox Series X/S in March 2022 overwhelmed the PlayStation 5. Then Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S not only beat the PlayStation 5 in recent monthly sales but also beat each other in total sales in the first quarter of 2022.

In addition to its own efforts, the Xbox Series X/S’s No. 1 position is also related to the erratic supply of the PlayStation 5 over the past few months. Due to various constraints on the supply chain, parts procurement and logistics for the PlayStation 5 have become increasingly difficult since the second half of last year, and Sony has even revised its original sales target for this. In terms of supply chain control and prediction, Microsoft seems to be more in place than Sony.
