EVGA is accused of excessively high deposits for advanced RMA services

Previously, Amazon’s multiplayer online RPG game “New World” was in the beta stage, and many users reported that the graphics card might hang in a short time when running with Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090. Among them, EVGA products are the most serious, and the damage ratio is much higher than other brands. Fortunately, the damage of these graphics cards is covered by EVGA’s warranty. Soon users received new cards replaced by EVGA.

EVGA has a good reputation in the high-end graphics card market, and its good after-sales service is indispensable. According to Igor’s Lab, EVGA currently charges a high deposit for its advanced RMA service, which has been criticized by many users. This is a customized service of EVGA. Users can send problematic graphics cards, pay a deposit, and receive replacement graphics cards from EVGA. When EVGA receives the damaged graphics card, it will return the deposit to the user, which can reduce the time that the user cannot use the card due to the lack of the graphics card.

Due to the high price of graphics cards, the deposit required for Advanced RMA services is very high. For example, EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, not the usual 782 euros (or 931 euros including tax), but 1728.2 euros. Probably because of the price, the US region has suspended the premium RMA service from June 24, 2021, but users who have previously purchased the service can still use the service, while users in the European region can continue to purchase the service.

In addition, according to Igor’s Lab report, EVGA also provides a new graphics card BIOS to fix the fan speed sensor problem of EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3. This is the product that was most severely affected by the “New World” incident before.

EVGA’s product manager stated on his Twitter account that there may be a problem with the I2C communication bus, which caused an abnormal reading fan speed. EVGA is still analyzing the specific reasons.
