The cumulative sales of PlayStation 5 in the UK exceeded 1 million units

According to GamesIndustry reports, 39 weeks after the PlayStation 5 console was launched in the UK, sales have exceeded 1 million units. This data is three weeks faster than the previous generation of PlayStation 4, making PlayStation 5 the fastest-selling PlayStation console in UK history.

Until July of this year, PlayStation 4 still has a trend of leading PlayStation 5 in terms of sales speed after the launch, but as the supply of PlayStation 5 increases, the situation has changed. At present, PlayStation 5 dominates the UK game console market in August sales. Sufficient inventory is the key, followed by Nintendo Switch, which has a decline in shipments compared to July, and Xbox Series X/S ranks third. In the four weeks ending August 28, more than 151,500 game consoles were sold in the UK. This means that nearly 1.4 million gaming devices have been sold this year, an increase of more than one-third over 2020.
PlayStation 5 10 million units

In the UK, sales of digital and physical games in August were 1.86 million, an increase of 6.3% year-on-year, of which sales of digital editions increased by 13.6% to 1.17 million, and sales of physical games fell by 4.1% to 690,000. Nintendo dominates physical game sales, accounting for 21% of the sales of newly released physical games in August and 43.2% of all physical game sales. In terms of the digital version, PlayStation 4 has the largest share with 36.4%, while Ubisoft is the largest digital game publisher with 19.4% share. However, it is worth noting that Nintendo has not disclosed the sales of its digital version of the game.

Sony announced as early as July this year that the PlayStation 5 game console has sold 10 million units worldwide since its release on November 12, 2020. It is the fastest-selling game console in the company’s history, unlocking the achievement of selling 10 million units in the shortest time. In the global semiconductor industry supply shortage and the severe background of the coronavirus pandemic, it is not easy for PlayStation 5 to still have such good results.
