Sony plans to start making Gran Turismo film

In recent years, many popular game IPs have been adapted into movies, which grab the attention of fans, and a little more guarantee at the box office. Of course, Sony is no stranger to this. It owns Columbia Pictures. The “Uncharted” just released this year is one of the representatives of the game IP remake, starring Tom Holland as series protagonist Nathan Drake. Although the game is very popular, the players’ response to the movie is not so good, and the global box office is about $400 million.

According to Wccftech, Sony is planning to start filming the Gran Turismo movie, bringing this game IP, which was born in 1997, to the screen. Two months ago, the latest work of the series Gran Turismo 7 was released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platform and the entire Gran Turismo series has accumulated 86 million sales so far.

Gran Turismo is not the first racing game of its kind to make a movie version. In 2014, another racing game “Need for Speed” released a movie of the same name, starring Breaking Bad actor Aaron Paul, and directed by Scott Waugh.

It is rumored that the producers of Sony’s Gran Turismo film are Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti, and the cast includes Elizabeth Cantillon, DeVon Franklin, and Hannah Minghella, but the project is still in the early stages, and it is still a long time before it is released. In addition to Gran Turismo, Sony is currently producing “The Last of Us” TV series of the same name, with Craig Mazin as its writer and executive producer.
