Sony may mass-produce PS VR2 in 2022H2

Sony has previously announced a new generation of PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) headsets but did not provide a specific release date. At GDC 2022 in March this year, many game developers have been full of praise for the PlayStation VR2 after experiencing the device, and the feedback seems to be quite positive.

Recently, a well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Sony will start the production of PlayStation VR2 in the second half of 2022, and multiple component suppliers in the supply chain are already making preparations. The initial production is 1.5 million units, and it is likely to be officially launched in the first quarter of 2023. It is said that Sony’s PlayStation VR2 timetable is also related to the progress of game development. There are currently more than 20 games in first-party and third-party development.

Industry insiders are optimistic about the development of Sony’s PlayStation VR2, believing that it is inseparable from the support of game developers. At the same time, Sony’s position and resources in the game industry can accelerate the development of 3A-level VR games, which is conducive to the development of VR games in the future.

PlayStation VR2 uses a single-eye 2000×2040 resolution OLED screen with a refresh rate of 90/120Hz, providing 4K HDR and a 110-degree field of view for a high-quality visual experience. PlayStation VR2 Sense technology combines eye tracking, headset feedback, 3D audio, and the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller to create a deep sense of immersion. In addition, Tempest 3D AudioTech with PlayStation 5 can also make the sound around the player more realistic, bringing a unique gaming experience.
