Microsoft launches Surface Laptop SE, a cheap laptop running Windows 11 SE, Only $249

Microsoft launched a new batch of Surface series computers at the beginning of last month, from the high-end Surface Laptop Studio to the entry-level Surface Go 3. To everyone’s surprise, Microsoft also recently announced a new cheap notebook Surface Laptop SE, which starts at only $249. It is mainly targeted at education and student users, that is, competing with Chromebooks.

Compared with the more textured metal body of the Surface series, the Surface Laptop SE is really popularly known as the younger brother. It uses a plastic body. This is the first time that Microsoft Surface series products use a plastic body, maybe considering that for student users, sturdiness and durability are more important, also, the 3:2 ratio is not used in the screen part, but the common 16:9, but the resolution is surprisingly 1366*768, considering that the screen size is only 11.6 inches, so the PPI is still acceptable. In fact, this is also a popular practice for this level of education notebooks.

The internal hardware configuration is relatively simple. The initial configuration Surface Laptop SE is equipped with Intel’s Celeron N4020 quad-core CPU, with a 4GB memory + 64GB eMMC storage combination, and the high configuration is upgraded to Celeron N4120, the memory and storage have also doubled, but in terms of interface, it provides a USB-C interface, but the power supply interface still has a DC interface, and other features include a 1 million pixel front camera, and its keyboard and touchpad seem to be the same from the previous Surface Laptop Go.


However, Microsoft does not use hardware configuration as a selling point, but targeted product development, the first is the specially designed Windows 11 SE operating system, which maintains most of the main functions and provides Microsoft 365 Education Edition. In addition, Microsoft also emphasized that the Surface Laptop SE communicates with the IT management of the school, and has made special optimizations in durability and maintainability. Also, its battery life can reach 16 hours, which can meet the learning time of a day.
