March 2022 Steam Hardware & Software Survey: RTX 3060 grew rapidly

Recently, the results of the Steam Hardware Survey for March 2022 came out. In this report, there is a very important change, that is, the 6-core CPU surpassed the 4-core CPU for the first time and became the highest number of CPU cores, which means that it is owned by most players. This is a historic moment.

Currently, on Steam, 6-core CPUs account for 34.22%, up 1.19% from the previous issue, while 4-core CPUs account for 33.74%, down 1.27% from the previous issue. 4-core CPUs have dominated for a long time in the past, but 6-core CPUs have grown very fast recently, eventually surpassing 4-core CPUs to top the list in March 2022. Considering the needs of today’s games and the mainstream products provided by Intel and AMD, the Core i5-12400/12600 series and Ryzen 5 5600 series on desktop platforms are the first choices for many gamers.

When it comes to graphics cards, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 has held the top spot for years and is very popular. At present, the proportion of GeForce GTX 1060 is 8.18%, and the proportion has even increased slightly by 0.19% recently, which is probably because many players bought this graphics card in the second-hand market. Although NVIDIA has been pushing the GeForce RTX 2060 based on the Turing architecture, it has not been able to replace the GeForce GTX 1060, surpassing the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and ranking third in the latest issue. On the contrary, the GeForce RTX 3060 based on the Ampere architecture performed well and maintained a rapid growth rate, which was twice as fast as the GeForce RTX 2060, and currently ranks seventh with a proportion of 2.48%.

As the supply shortage of graphics cards improves and prices are getting lower and lower, if it can be maintained, the ranking of graphics cards may change significantly.
