Horizon Forbidden West has sold more than 8.4 million copies

“Horizon Forbidden West,” a third-person action role-playing game series developed by Guerrilla Games, serves as the sequel to “Horizon Zero Dawn.” Released on February 18, 2022, its DLC “Burning Shores” was also launched on April 19, 2023.

The Amsterdam-based game studio commemorated its 20th anniversary with a celebratory article published on the official Sony PlayStation blog. It chronicled the studio’s evolution from a small third-party workshop for Nintendo Game Boy to a renowned developer of triple-A titles. Upon the arrival of the PlayStation 3, Guerrilla Games became a first-party studio for Sony, with many gamers having experienced their “Killzone” series.

As of April 16, 2023, Guerrilla Games revealed that “Horizon Forbidden West” had exceeded 8.4 million copies sold on PlayStation 4/5 consoles, while the entire “Horizon” series boasted a staggering 32.7 million units sold. This milestone, attributed to PlayStation’s subscription services and plans, has allowed more players to engage with the series, surpassing the studio’s wildest dreams from 20 years ago.

Jan-Bart van Beek, the head of Guerrilla Games, expressed gratitude for the community’s enduring love and support for the “Horizon” series: “I’d like to share that we are so excited that Aloy’s adventures will continue. Her latest mission takes her to the ruins of Los Angeles in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, and we can’t wait for you to find out where she’ll go next.
