Square launched Tap to Pay on Android for sellers

Square announced the introduction of a rapid contactless payment service named “Tap to Pay on Android” for Android devices, enabling businesses to accept payments via NFC-enabled Android devices for contactless payment services and credit cards that support contactless payments.

This service will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Spain, Ireland, and Japan. Businesses that have previously registered for Square’s payment services can utilize this service without incurring additional fees.

Prior to this, Square had enabled smartphones, such as iPhones and Android devices, to become convenient payment tools through external accessories. Additionally, they introduced integrated Point of Sale (POS) devices, service reservation products, and even specialized POS devices for the foodservice industry, complete with corresponding app services. This allowed businesses to easily process payments, while consumers could swiftly complete transactions using their smartphones or credit cards via NFC.

When Apple unveiled its “Tap to Pay” service, allowing businesses to conveniently use iPhones as payment tools, Square quickly integrated Apple’s API resources and launched “Tap to Pay on iPhone” in September of last year. Now, they have expanded their offering with “Tap to Pay on Android,” making Android devices convenient payment tools for businesses as well.

Apart from Square, other companies, including Stripe, have begun offering NFC-based payment services on iPhones and Android devices. Numerous businesses have started integrating Apple’s “Tap to Pay” API, making it more convenient for consumers to make contactless payments with their smartphones or credit cards.
